Today, you will explore the most important sites in Cusco and its surroundings.
We will begin at the Plaza de Armas, known in Inca times as Waqaypata, the setting for significant events during the colonial era.
Next, we will visit Qoricancha, which in Quechua means “Temple of Gold.” It was the first temple built by the Incas and was covered with abundant sheets of gold and silver.
We will leave the city center to head to the impressive Saqsayhuamán complex, famous for its massive stone blocks weighing over 150 tons. During the Tahuantinsuyo era, this site was considered the Temple of the Thunderbolt, dedicated to the god Illapa.
We will continue to Q’enqo, a ceremonial site dedicated to Pachamama (Mother Earth), known for its carved rock formations.
Next, we will visit Puka Pukara, meaning “Red Fortress,” a military construction used as a control and protection point.
Finally, we will reach Tambomachay, an Inca ceremonial center associated with water worship, which likely served as a purification bath for the rulers.
At the end of the tour, we will return to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel or, if you prefer, at the Plaza de Armas.
